Raayan Trailer: Dhanush’s Landmark Film Teases Raw and Intense Action Drama.
Actor Dhanush’s self-directed 50th film, Raayan, scheduled for theatrical release on July 26, 2024, had its official trailer released on Tuesday evening. The movie, described as a gangster action film, follows the titular character from North Chennai on a mission to avenge his family’s death, delving into the dark underbelly of North Chennai. The Raayan trailer, featuring the tagline “Blood is thicker than everything,” showcases a face-off between Dhanush and SJ Suryah, directed under the guidance of Selvaraghavan.
Raayan is Sun Pictures’ first production to release with an A rating. The movie also features Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, and Dushara Vijayan as Dhanush’s siblings, along with Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Aparna Balamurali, Prakash Raj, and others.
The trailer shows Dhanush in a strong and intense role as Raayan. It starts with Raayan injured, sitting while a family member pours water over his head, blood running down his body. Then, Raayan’s elder brother talks about how the most dangerous animal in the jungle is not a lion or a tiger, but a wolf. He explains, “If they fight one-on-one, the lion will win. But wolves are smart. They attack as a pack, surround the lion, and defeat it.” This is mixed with scenes of goons running with swords.
The trailer also shows Raayan’s adversary, portrayed by SJ Suryah, and highlights Prakash Raj in a significant role. Towards the end, Dhanush returns, embarking on an unstoppable rampage, accompanied by Sandeep Kishan and Kalidas Jayaram. The trailer ends with a melodious tune by AR Rahman.
Earlier posters featured Dhanush in a rugged, masculine pose, standing before a depiction of the goddess Kali. Dhanush positioned himself so that Kali’s multiple hands appeared to be his own, creating a powerful visual impact.
AR Rahman provides the music for the film, which is produced by Sun Pictures. Raayan represents Dhanush’s second directorial effort. His debut was Pa Paandi, starring Rajkiran, where Dhanush appeared in a significant cameo as the younger version of Rajkiran’s character. Now, with Raayan, Dhanush takes on the dual role of director and lead actor once more.
Om Prakash handles the cinematography for Raayan, with editing by Prasanna GK. Apart from Raayan, Dhanush is engaged in Kubera, directed by Sekhar Kammula. He is also directing another project titled Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, a romantic drama featuring multiple stars.
Raayan is scheduled to release in theatres on July 26.
